The Western Kennebec County Schools is an Alternative Organizational Structure (AOS) formed by the towns of Fayette and Winthrop under the 2007 State of Maine School Administrative Reorganization law. The AOS combines administrative, special education, transportation, and various other operational functions as required by law. Additional services may be combined where cost savings may be found. Along with a combined AOS budget and board, each member school unit retains a local budget and school board.
